The Network PC (Net PC) system design guidelines were created by Intel, Microsoft, Compaq, Dell, and HP as a reference specification for the design of a new kind of PC. This PC is optimized for the corporate environment which chooses to tightly control the configuration of its PCs. The Net PC is one of the range of managed PCs which also include desktops, mobile and server PCs. The specification was authored by the five companies and released for a period of industry review and comments. The specification is now being offered to allow the PC industry to begin Network PC implementations.
